I am a Montessori teacher and wanted Cameron’s room to be a place where he felt that he ‘fit’. Everything is child-sized and at his eye level. To facilitate his growth and independence, we have made small changes to the room along the way, such as hiding his small chest of drawers in the closet when he began to climb or moving the toy shelf to hide a lamp and humidifier. The room will always be somewhere he can be safe but not restricted.
Cameron loves his floor bed, which is just a double mattress. We arrange pillows along the floor beside the bed when he sleeps since the floor is hardwood. He often gets out of bed in the morning or after a nap and either crawls into our room to wake us, or plays with his toys and books. He has been sleeping on his floor bed since he was six months old but napping on it since he was a newborn.
