I designed Alice’s room while laying on the floor so I could see things from her perspective. I wanted her to be able to reach everything she needed with minimal help from me.
I put a mat on the floor for sleeping. I like it because it is still a dedicated place for sleep, but Alice is free to leave the bed herself (and get back in bed) without getting hurt. I also secured a mirror next to her bed. Finally, I put rolled-up towels under her changing table and dresser to keep things from rolling underneath. (Advice to parents: don’t pick baby furniture with space underneath!)
